OBJECTS OF THE ORDER
The principal objects of The Order of St John of Jerusalem, Knights Hospitaller, set down in our Charter and Constitution are to promote and defend the Christian faith and to assist and relieve the suffering of the sick and the poor, and to achieve this we will:
- work purposefully and diligently to promote the Christian Faith;
- create and deliver to the fullest extent of the capacity of the Members of the Order, the benefits that can be developed for the relief of the Lord’s sick and poor, in both a material and spiritual sense;
- vigorously, yet prudently and selectively, seek out distinguished people to become members of the Order, for the purpose of expanding our contribution to those in need throughout the World;
- develop a team spirit and close family relations throughout the Order, exchanging experiences and skills, so that our efforts will produce maximum results;
- individually, be prepared to offer our professional skills and resources on those cases where necessarily needed; and
- create within the Order an environment that will encourage and enthuse younger members of the Order to harness their energies to our purpose.
To achieve the above, it is important that we:
- undertake works of Christian Charity to all, and promote and defend the Christian faith in an ecumenical manner in the furtherance of the highest Christian ideals and principles;
- unite, promote and maintain the union of members of the Order, locally and worldwide, but at all times in accordance with the Charter and Constitution of the Order, and to uphold the ideals of the free World and the rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights; and
- always uphold the Charter and Constitution and maintain the respectability, unity, chivalry and social equality of the Order in its fight for Truth, Justice and Righteousness.
The Motto of the Order is:
Pro fide, Pro Utilitate Hominum – (For the Faith, For the Service of Humanity).
