Our Charitable Works

The Order of Saint John of Jerusalem Knights Hospitaller has had a tradition of involvement in medical and healing processes, over many years.

Today, the Order continues to support this direction, while at the same time, adhering to its main object of alleviating the needs of the poor, the sick and the disadvantaged.

The ACT OSJ Commandery has made significant donations to Claire Holland House, a Hospice in the ACT, and has been particularly committed to Claire Holland House Palliative Care. The ACT Commandery also regularly and actively supports all the charitable activity undertaken by the NSW Priory.

The NSW Priory has focused on helping hospitals, medical research and supporting the latest technological research to help those currently sick, and to protect future generations from suffering. This has included sizable donations to key Sydney & NSW Based Hospitals.

The NSW Priory has donated almost half a million dollars to a range of Institutions & Charitable Causes including St. Vincent’s Hospital (Sydney), Nepean Hospital, Blacktown Hospital, Westmead Children’s Hospital, Diabetes Australia, the Millennium Foundation and various Australian Bushfire and Flood Appeals.

All donations to our work are much appreciated, and we are committed to keeping our administrative costs to an absolute minimum.
The Order of Saint John (NSW) is registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC). All donations to the order of $2 and over are fully tax deductible.

Donations can be forwarded to “The Treasurer, Priory of New South Wales, PO Box 203, SPRINGWOOD, NSW, 2777.”

THE ACT OSJ CHARITY COMMITMENT

The ACT Priory is committed to the Aims and Objects of the Order, and will actively promote its charitable intent.

In addition, the ACT Priory will take an active part in other topical community issues. It is our intent, that through the website in the main, we will actively support awareness of other quality community activities, including:

  1. Road Trauma (alerts and press releases from the Australasian College of Road Safety, and the National Road Safety Strategy)
  2. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
  3. Men’s Health
  4. Palliative Care
  5. Neonatal issues

It is our intent, that as well as committing ourselves to the poor and distressed in our community, we will make annual awards to these causes, to the extent possible from our charitable collections.

These awards will recognise the wonderful efforts of our past esteemed Commander, Chevalier Ian Nicol, and, in keeping with his great strength and leadership, they would give a strong respectful message from us that the wonderful efforts of these organisations are also revered by us for the way in which they have brought relief to those who have suffered, or are still suffering, from issues not necessarily of their own making.

The Ian J Nicol Awards will be a lasting legacy of our commitment to our ideals.
